Additional Description:A hand dyed wool rug hooked with a shuttle hook onto cotton monks cloth. Mr Maus is based on a puppet created by a friend who is a puppeteer. This is part of a series of adventures Mr Maus will have in the coming years.
Mr. Maus is one who will have adventures similar to Prince Valiant and Don Quixote as he journeys through an imaginary landscape with a surrealistic touch.
Artist StatementWorking initially in oils and pastels, the serendipitous discovery of a nineteenth century American rug making tool set me off on a new path. Using hand dyed wool yarn on monks cloth backing, I create an eclectic variety of rugs, both for the floor and the wall. I have no self-conscious "message" that I apply to my designs, just undertake those that appeal to my color sense.
Artist BiographyI have been making rugs for about fifteen years and teaching rug making for about six years. I am self taught, and have built much of the equipment and tools that I use in making rugs. I have given many presentations on American rug making, including at the Textile Museum in Washington, D.C., and have exhibited my work at the American Craft Council Shows, the Smithsonian Craft Shows, and a number of galleries.
